Life can get very busy and it’s all too easy to find yourself off balance, not paying enough attention to important areas of your life. While you need to have drive and focus if you’re going to get things done, taking this too far can lead to frustration and intense stress.
That’s when it’s time to take a “aerial or bird’s eye view” of your life, so that you can bring things back into balance.
This is where this program can help. it’s used by professional life coaches and counselors, it helps you consider each area of your life in turn and assess what’s off balance. As such, it helps you to identify areas that need more attention.
What’s The Purpose?
This tool is often called the “wheel of life” (we call it the wheel of success) and used mainly to identify what needs to be changed when life is out of balance, for example, when the wheel shows us that all our attention is going to money & career and we are ignoring our health & fitness or needs for fun and recreation. The second illustration shows the wheel out of balance. This tool is usually used in goal-setting exercises, to help us be more balanced when we set goals.
Centered and Whole
The purpose of the wheel of life exercise is to make sure our wheel, the whole of our life, is balanced, all aspects or needs fulfilled in the right way. When one aspect of your life becomes the focus and the others are neglected, the wheel is out of balance. We know what happens to an out-of-balance wheel. It gets wobbly and is likely to crash. Our wheel, your life, needs to be balanced around the center.
We know, from experience, that success in any endeavor seems to demand a “Singleness of Purpose”. To succeed, we need to focus on that one thing and give it “our all”. We falter when we are scattered, going in all directions and getting nowhere. The question is, what is it that we should give “our all” to?
Certainly, we know that if work is the most important thing and you are ignoring your health or your family, it’s unhealthy and can be disastrous. If family is first, to the exclusion of your own well being, that’s also disastrous. Therefore, this tool here is a great way to discover and identify the lack of balance in your life or others and start working on them to bring the balance back into your life.
